The Nitrogen Dilemma: How Much is Just Right for Legumes?

Image
Legumes are nitrogen ninjas—they recruit rhizobia bacteria to turn air into plant food! But here’s the catch: if we pump their hydroponic solution with too much nitrogen, they stop cooperating!  We’re running experiments to find the ideal nitrogen concentration where both the plants and their nitrogen-fixing bacteria buddies can thrive. Stay tuned—results coming soon!

🌱 How Nitrate Messes with Plant-Bacteria Love 💔

Image
Did you know?  High nitrate levels  can ruin the special bond between plants & rhizobia (nitrogen-fixing bacteria)! Here’s how: 🔻 Less root hair deformation 🔻 Fewer bacteria sticking to roots 🔻 Broken infection threads 🔻 More failed symbiosis attempts We’re testing  different nitrate levels  to find the sweet spot where plants thrive  AND  keep their bacterial buddies happy! 🤝✨

Hydroponic growth room is READY!

Image
Exciting news! Our hydroponic growth room is all set up! 🌱 For the initial test, we’ve transferred germinated legume seeds into FlaxFarms . Up next, we’ll be closely monitoring the pH and EC levels of the hydroponic solution, inoculating rhizobium, and analyzing nitrogen content. Stay tuned for updates on our progress!

Finally, we received the FlaxFarm hydroponic growth system by Vegger. These FlaxFarm are equipped with the Philips GrowWise Control System. We will set up the system in the next few days and start growing plants!

Here we go! We just finished building the germination chamber/growth room for seedling production!!

We are building a germination chamber/growth room for seedling production using   Valoya LL-CV lights with dimmer s.

We are comparing the germination rate of sterilized (70% EtOH with 1% Tween-20) and unsterilized seeds. The vernalized seeds were placed under LED light for germination and covered with transparent plastic sheets to keep them moist.
